Instagram: No Likes for Selfies that Promote Animal Cruelty

When you take that perfect selfie, you want the brilliant smile, a nice outfight and of course, a good background. But while you might think every selfie you upload deserves a like, there are some additions to your photo that should get absolutely no love.

Selfies with big cats and other predators are anything but cool. When you pose for a picture with a tiger, lion or bear you are not only putting your life in danger but you are also participating in an industry that trades in cruelty. In order to get that perfect shot, that cat was probably ripped away from its mother when it was just a few days old and likely treated with extreme abuse. And once they grow up, and they are too dangerous to handle they are often locked away or sedated so they can still star in your selfie without posing any risk.

So when you upload that “tiger selfie” think about this, it’s not cool. It’s animal cruelty.

On July 29th - International Tiger Day - one of the world’s most popular social media apps - Tinder - asked its users to take down their tiger selfies. Instagram, the world’s largest picture sharing app, should join them and tell their users that big cat and other predator selfies aren’t welcome on their platform. By doing so they could reach hundreds of millions of people and help bring an end to a cruel industry that trades in abuse.

Sign the petition and ask Instagram to join Tinder and tell their users that wild animal selfies will get no love.
