Tell Congress: We Need Accountability for Justice Thomas
News stories over recent weeks and months have painted a damning picture of Virginia Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. She directly engaged with the Trump White House to try to overturn the 2020 election and attended the January 6th rally where the insurrection began. In her communications with the Trump White House, she referenced discussing her anti-democratic advocacy with someone who may be her husband. Nevertheless, Justice Thomas has refused to recuse himself from cases related to January 6th.
Thomas was the only Supreme Court justice to vote to enable President Trump to conceal his involvement in the insurrection from Congress and the American people. This is particularly alarming now that we know Justice Thomas may have been trying to shield his wife from accountability for potentially criminal activities.
Congress must act now to prevent Justice Thomas, or any other Supreme Court justice, from abusing their power on the Supreme Court for corrupt conduct or personal gain.
While judges at every other level of our federal courts are bound by an enforceable code of ethics, Supreme Court Justices are not. This must change.
Tell Congress you support a full investigation into Justice Thomas and his wife as well as passage of a Supreme Court Code of Ethics to prevent future corruption.

Our justice system is only fair when we can rely on justices and judges to rule impartially — without a desire to protect their spouses or support anti-democratic activities. Too many questions now surround Justice Thomas's connection to the January 6 insurrection and other efforts to prevent President Biden from taking office.
We call upon Congress to pass legislation establishing an enforceable ethical code of conduct for the U.S. Supreme Court that is equal to or more stringent than the judicial code of ethics for lower court judges.
There must also be a full investigation into Ginni Thomas's involvement in President Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election, including to what extent Justice Thomas participated in or supported these activities.
If Justice Thomas will not recuse himself from cases where he has a clear conflict of interest, Congress must have a code of ethics so that he can be held accountable.
We call on every lawmaker to support legislation establishing such a code and ensure all conflicts of interest are investigated and prevented moving forward.
