Help Pass the Great Ape Protection Act

Chimpanzees are social, intelligent animals that show depression, anxiety, empathy, and other diverse emotions. They are so similar to humans that they exhibit behaviors like eating with utensils, dressing with purpose and care, and showing preferences for certain TV shows.

But these sensitive, complex primates are being used in lab research testing -- a practice that is inhumane, inefficient, and becoming increasingly obsolete.

The Great Ape Protection Act, H.R. 1326, would:
* phase out the use of chimps in invasive research in the U.S.
* retire the 500 federally owned chimps to sanctuaries
* make the National Institute of Health's decision to end breeding on federally owned chimps statutory
* save nearly $200 million taxpayer dollars

Research lab tests using chimps can turn out inaccurate results. Often only a small number of chimps are used as test subjects, so the study is an unreliable source of information. And many new research methods that are gaining popularity and replacing animal experimentation. Lab testing on chimpanzees is outdated and inhumane. Help pass the Great Ape Protection Act to protect our primate cousins and gain innovative, compassionate ground in the field of scientific research.
