Almost immediately since he took office in his second term,
President Trump started working hard to make Americans' lives more expensive.He began imposing
tariffs on key trading partners like Mexico, Canada, and China, forcing any company that depended on things like cars, steel, aluminum, lumber, or pharmaceuticals (just to name a few) to pay
ridiculous, unsustainable additional costs to import these things. Trump claimed that these tariffs would somehow help the economy, with unsubstantiated claims that it would somehow increase U.S. jobs and get other countries to change their own trade policies.
Instead, all these tariffs did was pass import taxes onto consumers, driving up costs of essential items like groceries, clothing, phones, and cars.Trump's ridiculous, petulant trade war
drove up "the average US household's costs by an estimated $1,000 in 2025 alone."Thankfully, the Supreme Court just ruled that
Trump's tariffs -- which he implemented using the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) --
are definitively illegal! "IEEPA
does not authorize the President to impose tariffs." Period.
Sign the petition and demand that consumers be reimbursed for Trump's illegal tariffs!Now that Trump's tariffs have been ruled unlawful, companies that had to pay them are filing lawsuits in order to receive refunds. But this does not get to the core of the issue --
companies increased costs in order to cover the tariffs, so consumers are the ones that are really owed the refunds!Luckily, moves are already being made to get justice for everyday families. House of Representatives member Jasmine Crockett from Texas has introduced a bill called the
Payback Act.
This would require the U.S. Treasury to come up with a formula to determine how much individual people are entitled to in refunds -- so that Trump's government can pay up.Much like the relief checks sent out during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic,
tariff refund checks would be a lifeline for everyday families struggling to make ends meet!Sign the petition and demand that Congress pass the Payback Act without delay and end the tariff nightmare that has been economic turmoil for so many in the United States!
