The hidden cost of cancer: Jordon's Story

Jordon was only 11 when he was hit with a blinding headache.

"Within minutes, he was yelling with pain and had started to throw up, so we decided to take him to hospital," said his mum.

"On the way, he stopped and was very quiet. We were close to going home so he could sleep it off. But I said, 'Let's just keep going and make sure he's okay.'

Luckily they did. If they hadn't, Jordon wouldn't have survived the night.

Nobody knew it then, but Jordan had a bleed in his brain due to a brain tumour. His tumour is benign, but that doesn't mean it's not dangerous. The tumour is still growing, gradually destroying the last of Jordan's vision. Jordan's doctors have tried chemotherapy, brain surgery and even a trial drug in a bid to shrink his tumour.

There are thousands of other people who share Jordon's terrifying experience. These treatments are grueling, painful, and expensive — and most of the time patients are paying for this life-saving treatment out of pocket.

That's where Cancer Council Queensland comes in. Thousands of Queenslanders donate and volunteer for us each day, helping us to improve cancer control and support patients like Jordon so they can receive the care they need to stay alive.

We are dedicated to improving the quality of life for people like Jordan. And we need your help to keep doing this important work.

No one should have to worry about whether they can afford the treatment they need to stay alive. Join us and help Cancer Council Queensland support cancer patients like Jordon.
