Urge lawmakers to support equitable Medi-Cal resources in this year’s budget

One-third of the entire state and nearly half of all children in California rely on Medi-Cal for health coverage. Many Californians struggle to access health care because of their economic status, age, place of residence, gender, disability status, language, sexual orientation, race, and ethnicity.

But a policy that has frozen reimbursement since 2012 keeps Californians from getting the health care resources they need. Then an unprecedented pandemic devasted hospitals and the communities they serve.

Insufficient Medi-Cal funding makes it harder for our neighbors to receive the care they deserve, including enough hospital staff, advanced medical equipment, and access to chronic disease management programs.

Patients shouldn't have to jump through hoops to find a provider that can afford to accept Medi-Cal. Every Californian deserves access to medical equipment and health care programs that help them stay on top of their chronic diseases and avoid future medical care. Without better funding for Medi-Cal, our most vulnerable neighbors suffer.

Adequately funding Medi-Cal can change that. Take 20 seconds to tell lawmakers to provide proper funding for Medi-Cal patients to support health equity.

Sign here to tell the California's legislative leaders to provide our health care system with the necessary resources and staff to provide life-saving and life-changing care. Our families, neighbors, and communities can't wait any longer!

Dear Assemblymember Joaquin Arambula, Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins, Senator Susan Eggman, and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon:

Please support improved Medi-Cal funding for hospitals in the budget. California must adequately fund Medi-Cal to protect health equity for our most vulnerable neighbors.

I'm concerned that this unprecedented pandemic has caused enormous challenges for hospitals, including devastating financial losses that have made an inequitable system of care even worse and created an uncertain future for hospitals in communities throughout California. Insufficient Medi-Cal funding makes it harder for hospitals to recruit and keep staff, pay for advanced medical equipment, and support chronic disease programs.

But adequately funding Medi-Cal can change that. Medi-Cal provides health coverage to the most vulnerable Californians: one-third of the entire state and nearly half of all children.

Our families, neighbors, and communities can't wait any longer. The California Legislature needs to act this year to ensure hospitals have the necessary resources and staff to provide continued critical care. I urge you provide adequate funding for Medi-Cal patients to support health equity.
