Tell Your California State Legislator: NO FREE PASS FOR BIG OIL!

AB 32 is California's landmark law to reduce carbon pollution, clean our air and fight climate change. The law is spurring innovation and creating jobs, while helping us transition to a clean and growing economy. It’s also generating revenue to help the communities hardest hit by pollution and climate change.

It’s no surprise that Big Oil is doing everything they can to avoid compliance with the law, which requires them to reduce carbon emissions from transportation fuels starting January 1, 2015. Outrageously, some California lawmakers appear to be siding with Big Oil instead of voters and the public good. They're offering a free pass to oil companies by helping them avoid AB 32 compliance. This move would mean big profits for oil companies and major costs for Californians.

But here's the good news: Twice as many California legislators are already fighting back! They asked the California Air Resources Board and Governor Jerry Brown to stay the course on cleaning our air, reducing carbon pollution and transitioning to a cleaner energy economy.

Tell your elected representatives that voters like you support AB 32, and that you expect lawmakers to stand up for clean air and California families. Send your message now!
Dear [Decision maker],

As a constituent, I'm urging you to stand up for clean air and action on climate change. AB 32 is working -- the law is spurring innovation and creating jobs, while helping us transition to a clean and growing economy. Voters like me support it, and we're watching closely to see that our elected officials represent our views.

It's no surprise that oil companies want to avoid the price of cleaning up their pollution by passing on the costs to consumers, then blaming laws like California's clean air and clean energy law AB 32.

But the truth is that Californians already carry the burden for oil companies. In fact, low-income communities are disproportionately affected by air pollution, which puts them at higher risk for illnesses.

By avoiding their compliance with laws like AB 32, the oil industry will impose even more costs on families that are already burdened with higher healthcare expenses. It isn't fair to our families, and we won't stand for it.

We need our legislators to stand up for California's clean energy laws and, specifically, voice your agreement that carbon from transportation fuels should be capped starting on January 1, 2015.

I'm always proud to support a legislator who will stand up for clean air and California families -- and I hope you're with us.

Sincerely,
