Visa Application for Grandmaster Le Sang
Our Grandmaster Lê Sáng's application for a Visa to has been denied by the U.S. Consulate General office, citing that he has no strong family, social or professional ties in Vietnam and they concern that he may not return. Our Grandmaster only wishes to accept our invitation to come to the U.S. for a brief visit and has no intention to stay in the U.S. permanently. At the advanced age of 86, we need to do all we can to get the approval of his Visa and make Grandmaster Lê Sáng's visit a reality.
This denial is critically important to us all because it's a precedence that limits his ability to visit his students at any locations outside of Vietnam.
We need your signatures to request for the Consulate General to reconsider his application.

Dear Mr. Winnick:
Based on the Visa application rejection letter by your office regarding our Grandmaster Sang Le, dated March 3, 2006, we, Vovinam disciples worldwide would like to request for your reconsideration of the Visa application with the following reasons.
Our Grandmaster’s Visa request was denied based on Section 214(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), due to the belief that he does not have sufficiently strong family, social, or professional ties to Vietnam to ensure that his stay in the US would be temporary. As you know Grandmaster Le Sang visited the United States in 2002, and since then his status and ties to Vietnam have not changed. His application was accepted then, we believe the INA reguations have not changed in this area. As the Grandmaster of Vovinam Viet Vo Dao since 1960, he has trained hundreds of thousands of students in Vietnam and all over the world. We look up to him as the utlimate teacher and the dearest patriarch. Having dedicated his entire life to the cause of the Vovinam Martial Arts discipline and stayed unmarried until this day to serve the discipline. Vovinam students everywhere is his family. In our culture, the order of respect starts in the order of “king, master, father”; “teacher” is always revered specially. This, we consider to be a very strong and special “family or social” tie to Vietnam. In addition, at the advanced age of 86, he wishes to rest in his homeland and has no reason nor desire to stay for long in America.
Since 1975, Vovinam Viet Vo Dao has been expanding rapidly internationally and has provided training to many Vovinam disciples in many countries including the United States (vovinam websites). The Grandmaster’s appearance always presents an ultimate image of the Vietnamese Martial Arts and it demonstrates the unity of all Vovinam disciples worldwide.
It has been a tradition of our discipline that the Grandmaster makes his annual visit to Vovinam schools internationally. We have been organizing a major conference in Orlando, Florida in September 2006 which was originally scheduled for May 2006 but has been postponed pending the arrival of our Grandmaster. As American Vovinam disciples we wish to welcome him on this occasion. At this event, many Vovinam masters, instructors, and students in the United States and around the world will congregate to pay respect to our revered Grandmaster Sang Le, directly receive his wisdom, and hold student workshops and instructional conferences. As Patriarch of Vovinam Martial Arts, his presence at this event will be our pride and joy and it be vitally important to us.
Our Grandmaster has no intention of staying in the United States permanently as Vovinam is rooted in its homeland of Vietnam. Furthermore, as the leader of Vovinam worldwide, he intends to carrier out his mission as Grandmaster at the Vovinam’s Altar Hall, which is also his residence for more than 40 years, in HCM City, Vietnam.
The Vovinam Reunion Association is a non-profit organization with the responsibility of coordinating conferences for Vovinam Vietnamese Martial Arts masters, instructors and students from around the world to discuss how Vovinam Martial Arts can positively effect the youth.

Dựa vào lá thư từ chối đơn xin Chiếu Khán của vị thầy khả kính Chưởng Môn Lê Sáng, được ký ngày 3 tháng 3, 2006 từ văn phòng Tổng Lãnh Sự Hoa Kỳ Việt Nam. Chúng tôi, tất cả môn sinh Vovinam gần xa, xin chứng tỏ sự đồng tâm và yêu cầu ông cứu xét lại lá đơn Chiếu Khán vì những lý do sau đây.
Tờ đơn xin Chiếu Khán của VS Chưởng Môn bị từ chối dựa trên khoản 214(b) của Luật Di Dân Và Quốc Tịch, vì họ đã cho rằng vị thầy của chúng tôi không có liên hệ mật thiết với gia đình, xã hội hoặc nghề nghiệp chuyên nghiệp trong Việt Nam để bảo đảm rằng chuyến viếng thăm Hoa Kỳ của ông sẽ chỉ có tính cách tạm thời. Như ông đã rõ, Võ Sư Chưởng Môn Lê Sáng đã đến thăm xứ Hoa Kỳ vào năm 2002, từ ngày ấy những liên hệ của ông và gia cảnh vẫn không thay đổi. Đơn của ông đã được chấp thuận vào thời điểm ấy, nên chúng tôi nghĩ rằng luật lệ di trú của Hoa Kỳ vẫn không thay đổi. Là vị Chưởng Môn của môn phái Vovinam Việt Võ Đạo từ 1960, Võ Sư Lê Sáng đã đào tạo hàng trăm ngàn môn sinh tại Việt Nam và trên toàn thế giới. Tất cả các môn sinh luôn hướng về ông như một vị thầy và vị cha khả kính. Thầy chúng tôi suốt đời tận tụy cống hiến cho lý tưởng, không gia đình riêng tư để dành toàn thời gian cho sinh hoạt võ học. Môn phái chính là gia đình của ông. Trong truyền thống văn hóa của dân tộc chúng tôi, vai trò “thầy” được kính trọng đặc biệt trong thứ tự “Quân, Sư, Phụ”. Điều này chúng tôi cho là một mối liên hệ “gia đình và xã hội” rất đặc biệt và chặt chẽ với xứ sở Việt Nam. Hơn nữa, ở tuổi cao niên 86, ông luôn mong muốn được an nghỉ trên đất mẹ vì thế ông không có lý do nào có thể giữ ông ở lại lâu dài trên đất Hoa Kỳ.
Từ sau 1975, Vovinam Việt Võ Đạo đã phát triễn nhanh chóng và đào tạo nhiều môn sinh tại nhiều quốc gia trên toàn thế giới trong đó có Hiệp Chủng Quốc Hoa Kỳ (các website của Vovinam). Sự hiện diện của Võ Sư Chưởng Môn luôn là biểu tượng của văn hóa và nền võ học Việt Nam và cũng là sự hiệp nhất cho môn sinh Vovinam chúng tôi trên toàn thế giới.
Vẫn là một truyền thống của môn phái, Võ Sư Chưởng Môn hàng năm thường thực hiện các chuyến công du thăm viếng môn sinh trên toàn thế giới. Chúng tôi đang tổ chức một đại hội tại Orlando, Florida vào tháng 9, 2006, cuộc họp mặt mà đã được dự trù vào tháng 5 vừa qua, nhưng phải đình hoãn chờ đợi sự hiện diện của Võ Sư Chưởng Môn. Chúng tôi là môn sinh Vovinam tại Hoa Kỳ muốn được đón tiếp vị Chưởng Môn tại đại hội này. Trong dịp này, nhiều võ sư, huấn luyện viên và môn sinh các cấp gần xa sẽ tề tựu về để tỏ lòng kính trọng vị thầy khả kính, và được học trực tiếp từ ông, cũng như tham gia các lớp chuyên huấn. Như là một người cha của môn phái Vovinam, sự hiện diện của của ông sẽ là niềm hãnh diện và là điều tất yếu đối với chúng tôi.
Thầy của chúng tôi không hề có ý định lưu trú lâu dài tại Hiệp Chủng Quốc vì môn phái Vovinam đã phát sinh và lớn lên trong lòng dân tộc Việt Nam. Hơn nữa, là vị lãnh tụ của môn phái Vovinam trên toàn thế giới, ông vẫn tiếp tục sứ vụ Chưởng Môn tại Tổ Đường Vovinam, cũng là nơi cư trú của ông hơn 40 năm nay, tại TP-HCM, Việt Nam.
Vovinam Reunion Association là một tổ chức vô vị lợi có trách nhiệm phối hợp tổ chức đại hội qui mô cho tất cả võ sư, huấn luyện viên và môn sinh các cấp trên toàn thế giới để bàn thảo những sinh hoạt bổ ích trong việc xây dựng thế hệ trẻ cũng như đóng góp vào nền văn hóa Hoa Kỳ.
Chúng tôi, những người ghi danh và ký tên dưới đây muốn chứng tỏ lòng ao ước tha thiết rằng đơn xin Chiếu Khán sẽ được ông tái cứu xét và chấp thuận. Chúng tôi xin thành ghi ân sự hỗ trợ và thông cảm của ông.
