Medicare is a crucial element of the American health care system and it is once again facing potentially devastating payment cuts related to sequestration. Late in 2021, Congress passed the Protecting Medicare and American Farmers From Sequester Cuts Act, temporarily delaying cuts to reimbursement. Unless Congress takes action to protect affordable health care, these cuts will go back into effect at midnight, March 31, 2022.
Cuts to Medicare will continue to put undue stress on pandemic-weary health care workers and hospitals and will jeopardize access to affordable care. Congress needs to act now to ensure there are no reductions in Medicare spending so that hospitals can keep providing crucial lifesaving care to patients - especially as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. Between Omicron, workforce shortages, and inflation, hospitals and health care workers have been stretched to the limit -- and they need crucial funding to continue providing quality, affordable care to all patients. But now, cuts to Medicare threaten access to care.
