Celebrate Kids of All Abilities and Differences by Supporting Special Olympics Canada!

Our differences are what make us extraordinary, and what make our world such a rich, beautiful place to live. But far too often, people with intellectual disabilities are made to feel that their differences are a burden, a roadblock, or just too much.

Special Olympics Canada knows that's just not true. Intellectual disabilities are just one of the many beautiful differences that their athletes exhibit. The problem is not with them — it is with the society that for far too long has not accepted and celebrated these differences.

Take Emmanuel Tezera, for example. When he was still very young, his family discovered he had a gross motor delay — they were, of course, apprehensive about the challenges this bring. But by enrolling him in their local Special Olympics Active Start program, for kids aged 2-6 who need some extra support gaining basic motor skills, they not only gave him the tools to reach his full physical potential — they also immersed him in a community that showed him his differences were not bad, but beautiful, celebrated, and shared. Three years later, Emmanuel is thriving and he and his family are working to empower other kids and their families, too.

From young children to adults, this is Special Olympics Canada's mission: to prove to all folks with intellectual disabilities that their differences do not make them lesser — they make them extraordinary and unique. Will you sign on and support Special Olympics Canada as they provide spaces and communities where people can find joy and power in their differences?
