Although 2nd Amendment Constitutional rights are unquestioned, legal gun ownership by law-abiding citizens should actively support law enforcement efforts by requiring the provision of a DNA sample for file and exchange with any other state which adopts similar provisions. Not only does this assist law enforcement efforts in identifying persons involved in criminal activity, but also acts as a deterant to prior or prospective offenders.
Anyone with databased DNA would be reluctant to commit even the most
violent crimes because of the knowledge that they would be caught. Cold Case Murders and Sexual Assualts could be closed at a prolific rate with participation in this program.
Please take into the account the ammount of pragmatic support that exists for participatory assistance in law enforcement efforts exhibited by these Petition Signers. Gun ownership and therefore registration is a voluntary process, so the condition of DNA submission is not an infringement upon civil liberties, but a commitment of law-abiding gun owners to not only support law enforcement but follow the basic tenants of human security.
