Australians to withdraw advertising from Google until hate speech is removed

Hate speech demeans individuals and minority groups and leads to violent hate crimes.

The website Encyclopedia Dramaticais greatly over represented by young Caucasian males aged between 18 and 24 without a post graduate education who are browsing at school or at home.

Google puts advertisements on the hate speech which translates into profits for them at the expense of human rights and dignity.

It only takes Google a few keystrokes to remove a link yet they have consistently refused to remove hate speech from these websites.

The Australian Federal Government has been notified about the hate speech on these websites on multiple occasions but has not taken action.  

Do we want young men reading that the way to treat women including lesbians and 16 & 12 year old girls is rape?

Referred the content to the makers of Internet Industry Association (IIA) approved filters.

In light of the lack of effective action response by the AMCA and/or the Australian federal Government to ensure the removal of race hate and offensive material it seem fair to conclude that they are ineffectual and appear to acquiesce to the wishes of Google on the content it chooses to publish in Australia.

Due to the different laws governing hate speech and the liability of internet content providers the focus of this petition is for Google to block the availability of hate speech on Ripoff Report and Encyclopedia Dramatica in Australia. This does not prevent non-Australian residents from signing the petition.

Why petition Google?

These websites will NOT remove the hate speech. Google supports these websites by indexing the material and ignoring multiple removal requests.

Why Google is the problem .

1. The issue is the widespread distribution of this material specifically to 'at risk' groups. Hate speech will never be eradicated per se but the IMPACT can be significantly minimised and the harm reduced if it is not accessible.

2. Google's has a global dominance over the dissemination of information. Its search results are NOT neutral. Evidence to the recent antitrust hearing demonstrated that it 'censors' websites that offer competing products.

3. Google widely cites Article 19 of the Declaration of Human Rights as a rationale for acting ith impunity but fails to understand that this right is not absolute: It is contingent on the respect of other rights and the law.

3. More than 97% of Google’s revenue comes from advertising and it generates revenue from the ads on some of the pages containing hate speech and offensive material.
