Where on earth is your food being manufactured?

Have you looked at the labels on your processed food lately? You'll find information telling you who distributed your food and where the distributor is located, but you'll seldom find information telling you the state or, more importantly, the country from which your food originated. Even calling the company, you will often be met with vague or misleading information.
With the continuing issue of contaminated food coming from foreign countries, this is a major issue for food safety and quality in the US. Foreign countries are not held to the standards of the US Food and Drug Administration. With little control other than our consumer dollars, it's imperative for US citizens to know where our food is being processed, so that we can make informed choices for the safety of our families.
Please sign this petition to be delivered to Andrew C. Von Eschenbach, the Commissioner of the FDA, and Rep. Henry Waxman, Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, requesting the right of US consumers to not only know who is distributing our food, but who is manufacturing it and in what country.
Thank you for supporting this important issue!
When American consumers look on the label of their processed food today, they'll find information telling them who distributed their food and where the distributor is located, but they'll seldom find information telling them the country from which their food originated. Even when calling the company, consumers will often be met with vague or misleading information. We can only assume this lack of information is intentional, since US consumers are becoming increasingly concerned about the safety of the food entering our shores from foreign manufacturers.
With the rising problem of contaminated food coming from other countries, this is a major issue for food safety and quality in the United States. As you know, foreign countries are not held to the standards of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. With little control other than our consumer dollars, it's imperative for US citizens to know where our food is being processed, so that we can make informed choices for the safety of our families.
As American citizens and consumers, we need to not only know who is distributing our food, but who is manufacturing it and in what country it is being made so that we can make informed choices for the safety and health of our families. Please address this issue, by requiring clear labeling on all processed foods, listing the manufacturer's name and country of origin.
Thank you for addressing this important consumer health issue. We will look forward to your reply.
