Speeding tickets have become an income generator for law enforcement rather than ticketing those who are driving unsafe. Thus why there are speed traps, cameras and other mechanisms to determine exact speeds so they can ticket anyone who breaks even slightly over the limit.
Speed limits are "General Driving Speed Recommendations," not an imaginary safe/unsafe point. 65mph we are safely driving, but at 66 mph we are not. This isn't even logical. Safe driving takes into consideration many factors; age and condition of the automobile, road conditions, driver experience and reaction time, number of cars in the immediate vicinity, etc.
Speed limits are a yes/no definitive test as to whether or not the officer can issue a ticket, and rarely do police come to you window to tell you that you are driving in an unsafe manor, only that you are speeding.
This petition is to make speeding tickets exactly what they are: Income generators and on-site reminders to think "Safety." They are not intended to destroy one’s life by taking away driving privileges and the ability to feed their family, contribute to public service or be a productive citizen which is how the points system is designed currently.
The Citizens Against Reckless Ticketing (CART) propose we send a message to law makers to repeal the point system on speeding tickets, but not other more dangerous infractions such as inattentive and reckless driving which should be handed out more generously when circumstances of dangerous driving exists.
Please support our cause and restore logic to speeding infractions.
