Being vegetarian or vegan means being part of a minority. Many weddings offer chicken or fish as the main meal while those that are Veg are told to just have a salad. We have to call in ahead to get a veggie option when traveling. Our food is not advertised as heavily as meat products. There are not as many coupons for our grocery shopping.
Every month something is on sale at fast food restaurants. The prices keep getting slashed. Buy a Whopper and the second one is half off. Buy a chicken sandwich and you get one free. They constantly lower the prices and make special deals and give away meat as a gift with purchase.
But nothing for vegetarians and vegans. Our limited options at those fast food joints are always the same amount. We are not given deals or special offers. We don’t get our BK veggie burgers at more affordable prices. If we want to eat fast food, we have to pay for it. Burger King does not value our patronage.
It is wrong to exclude someone because of race, disability, gender, nationality, age, or sexuality. But we get excluded and treated differently every day for not being meat eaters. We already have such limited options in fast food restaurants---and it took years for those options to be added to the menu---and should not have to pay extra money for the healthier and more humane choice. Burger King discriminates against us because of our dietary preferences.
Sign this petition to demand Burger King and fast food franchises in general stop ignoring us. Give us special deals! Lower our prices! Treat us with the same respect! Acknowledge that the economy is hard on vegetarians and vegans too!
