It is a sad truth that all aspects of our lives have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. We, the parents of Mastermind School, have had to accept that during this pandemic all classes will be online and that the quality of our children's education is being compromised. Students are getting less attention of the teachers and absolutely none of the on-campus benefits, such as the sports and lab facilities. Students are learning and progressing much less with online classes, if at all.
Just as we have accepted that classes have to be this way during the pandemic, the school has to accept that it is unreasonable for parents to pay full tuition fees for these classes. Second to the problem that we are getting less for our money, is the issue that all the parents are facing adverse effects of a pandemic-stricken economy. We are surrounded by unprecedented salary cuts, job layoffs, etc. Every family's income has been affected. At this point Mastermind has to see that parents can neither pay more than 50% of tuition fees for the online-classes nor pay for things they are not getting, such as lab fees. Thirdly, all of us parents now have to monitor our children's education much more than before, which Mastermind themselves instructed us to do. So in the spirit of that collaboration, and since they already reduced the tuition by 50% during the months of April, May, and June (the latter having a full month of classes), we are hopeful that Mastermind will continue to be considerate and (a) desist raising the fees for 2020-2021, (b) halve the fees for the online-classes starting in July 2020. For years and years we have gone along with everything Mastermind has asked from us, now we need Mastermind to listen to this very reasonable request.
We humbly ask the School Management Committee of Mastermind English Medium School (Dhaka, Bangladesh), to give our petition due consideration to reduce the fees 50% from July 2020 and onwards till things normalize.
Please sign this petition to let Mastermind know that all of us parents want the total tuition fees for all students to be reduced by 50% until on-campus classes resume in a safe manner.
