Petition to protect the Green areas of Cape Canaveral.
The following concerned residents of Brevard County hereby submit this petition to the City of Cape Canaveral's City Council members.
We urge that an immediate moratorium should be imposed on any upcoming development projects that lead to destruction of green areas within the city. This includes deforestation (removal of trees) on lands that are larger than 1/2 acres.
We submit to the honorable members that a focus be placed towards redevelopment. That is an attention be applied to areas that need rebuilding such as derelict commercial buildings and their centers rather than on our limited open and green spaces.
The aggressive unchecked urban growth we have seen in the past has been a detriment to many sensitive community systems including but not limited to the local ecology with its bio-diversity, historic and archaeological resources, waters, trees and fauna. The time is now to protect the remaining natural resources of our community.
