End 3 strikes in California

   Californias 3 strikes law is racist, unfair, unethical and has not improved the quality of life in California, it has only wrongfully sentenced individuals who are not serious threats to society.

   1) The 3 strikes law is racist:  Many people think that the 3 strikes law is mandatory for all criminals but this is not true, it is up to a judges discrestion as to wheather it applies. Studies have shown in LA county the law has been applied to 14% whites 26% hispanics and 50% blacks. and that in Orange county the law has been applied to 11% white 12% black and 60% hispanics!
  2)Like all mandatory sentencing laws it undermines the Justice system by creating sentencing guidlines that do not fit the actual crime. On more than one occasion a man has been sentenced to life in prison for not paying for a pizza!
  3)Even with this law in place for decades Califorina contines to rise in the ranks of overall crime. In 2000 the state was ranked 30th in overall crime, in 2007 it was ranked at 25th. As I write this California is struggling to meet a budget that is troubled by the cost of housing prisoners in overcrowded jails.
     Stop the senselessness of this racist and unfair law that is helping to plague California. Please sign the pettition to repeal California's 3 strikes law.
