We the undersigned:
Want to address the issue to racial discrimination in Statesboro, Georgia and other places in our world where being a racial minority makes you an easy target for some of our public officials who seek to abuse their power.
Forty years after the Civil Rights Movement made its biggest impact, we still have people who feel disenfranchised. In fact, since the incident in Jena Louisiana, young college students are beginning to speak out and tell their stories. Why is it that there is still so much unequal treatment of racial minorities in our country? Racial profiling by certain public officials seems to have increased in recent years.
We would like to appeal to people who have not necessarily experienced racism, but have seen it first hand as well as those who have been the recipients of these behaviors. Help us get the message out about this practice.
Let's all work to ensure that people around the world are treated with respect, and identify those people in our world who continue to abuse the basic civil rights of others. Today, there are still people of power who seek to disenfranchise the poor, the young and minorities.
By signing this petition, we are stating that we will longer accept that behavior and that it needs to stop. We thank you for your assistance, and welcome your comments.
