The Sweet Briar College Bum Chum and QV tap clubs currently participate in, what for decades has been known as, The Game. Sweet Briar College alumna and current student have been both disappointed and saddened to learn that this time honored tradition, which was created to encourage school spirit and class bonding, has been placed on hiatus for the 2008-2009 year pending a decision or investigation by the Non-Academic judicial process at Sweet Briar.
The purpose of the Game is openly discussed in the initial class meeting that takes place prior to the start of the Game each year, with both clubs expressly stating that no one is required to participate and that no one will ever be asked to do anything that may potentially make them feel uncomfortable. The purpose of the Game is also reiterated before and during all Bum Runs that take place during the year, with the members again explaining that the student's participation is purely voluntary and that they should never do anything they feel uncomfortable doing. It has always been the intent of the Bum Chums and QVs to promote new ways to build class spirit and character, and as such, the Bum Chums and QVs encourage an open exchange of ideas and suggestions with the Sweet Briar community regarding ways to improve the Game. The Bums Chums and QVs, like any other student organization, develops a student%u2019s character, while inspiring close and meaningful relationships within the Sweet Briar community. Sweet Briar tap clubs offer Sweet Briar women special opportunities to make a positive impact on the lives of others, as well as the opportunity to make a difference in their own lives.
