Time for Canada to change the Justice System

I am writing this as a tribute to a little angel who doesn%u2019t have a voice, but who needs one. This is for Abbygail Elizabeth Dice and any other children that have been killed or hurt at the hands of other people.

We, the undersign, are asking the Canadian government, the Prime Minister, and the representatives of the country to pass a law that would help protect children from all kinds of child abuse. Such abuse includes murder, rape, sexual assault, sexual interference, molestation, abduction, kidnapping, neglect or any form of child abuse that is out there. Not enough is being done. When you turn on the television or open your newspaper, how many times do you hear about another child who has been hurt at the hands of someone that is supposed to be taking care of them?

Canada needs a website set up so that the public can find out where a sexual offender is registered. It shouldn%u2019t matter the severity of the crime that the offender did. The offender did a crime to a child and therefore shouldn%u2019t be allowed the chance to take more innocence away. You can%u2019t tell me that people don%u2019t re-offend. I know of an offender who was found guilty of sexual assault against a minor and received 18 months probation. Just before his probation was done, he turned around and raped two younger children. The justice system not only failed the first victim, but failed to protect those two younger children. And for what, because he said he would never do it again and that he was sorry?

The accused shouldn%u2019t have as many rights as they do. They have taken away someone else%u2019s rights to a life. Rather, it being taking someone%u2019s innocence away, brutally beating and abusing someone, or taking there lives away from them. Why should the accused be allowed to have a life free and living like nothing happened? There is a story out in the world right now, Abbygail Elizabeth Dice, a little girl that didn%u2019t get the chance to live her life at all. Only a month old when she disappeared. The mother is the only suspect in this case. She has been charged with indignity to a body. Abbygail is gone, and here the mother is sitting free and clear with a couple of stupid rules on her. No firearms in her possession and she can%u2019t move without the courts permission. Here she sits enjoying every single day of life, taking walks, going out shopping, spending time with her family and friends. What about her daughter Abbygail?

Abbygail is gone, no one is giving answers to her whereabouts. How is this fair? Abbygail isn%u2019t enjoying the simple things of life because someone took them away from her. The only suspect that has been charged in her disappearance is walking around free and clear, and just having to go to the court house once a month, or when the judge wants her to.

How much does this cost the taxpayer? For someone to come into the court house and just remand it to another day? The judge, crown attorney and any court officers have to be paid for each and every single day that this goes on, and this person gets freedom, as her daughter doesn%u2019t get the same respect.

Why does the justice system seem to care more about the defendant than the victim? This isn%u2019t how it should be. It should be that the victim gets more respect then the defendant gets. If it wasn%u2019t for the defendant doing whatever he/she was accused of, the case wouldn%u2019t be in the courtrooms, would it?

Depending on the case, if the accused has prior convictions of abusing a child, it should be taken into consideration not to allow the accused to be around children without supervision. The accused took the rights away from a child, so why should he/she be allowed any more rights than that child?

It is just this simple: abuse hurts. It doesn%u2019t matter what kind of abuse it is, it hurts and it affects the child and the families involved. Not just the day it happens, but for the rest of their lives. And worse case is that the child is killed at the hands of someone that is supposed to love, nurture and care for them.

Today, in a world where we are battling terrorism and wars, many people forget that there are so many children who are missing, abducted, kidnapped, being murdered at the hands of their caregivers, parents and grandparents, being raped and molested, and all this has to be a higher priority within the government. Act now to highlight the problem of our children%u2019s future and make this world a safer earth for our children.

These children are the future.
They matter.
Help keep them safe and tell them that our government says that this behaviour isn%u2019t going to be tolerated anymore.

This needs to be changed also, I don%u2019t think this is right:
One of the things that I am thinking is the issue is you do a crime and look how well you get it in jail. Jail isn't a punishment if you are going there and getting more privilages than us, the taxpayers, that are paying for the accused while they are in there.

Look at Karla Homolka. This lady got an education on us. She was in jail for killing those young girls with her husband Paul Bernado. So where is the punishment?

Mr. Harper, as a Canadian citizen we have had enough, and we want you as the leader of our country to please stand up and do the right thing and change the laws for our children, to protect them. To say that enough is enough and our justice system needs to be changed. Health conditions shouldn%u2019t keep a person out of jail. Too many people use that as an excuse for what they did. For what, so that they can get off and walk away free? If you do the crime you do the time. No excuses. Actions have consequences. Now it is time for the Canadian government to show people that they are going to make offenders responsible for their actions.
