This could happen to YOU... On May 26 federal Bill C-501 proposed to change the Companies Creditors Arrangements Act (CCAA) and the Bankruptcy and Insolvency act (BIA) in order to secure employee pensions and other benefits. The bill passed second reading supported by 144 MPs, but only included 12 conservatives. Prime Minister Harper and his cabinet voted against the bill. ... By signing this petition you implore The Rt. Hon Stephen Harper, The Honorable Jim Flaherty, The Honorable Tony Clement, and all their Conservative colleagues to guide and support Bill C-501 through its' third reading before September 30, 2010. ... While dedicated to all Canadian private sector pensioners under threat of employer bankruptcy, the immediate focus is on 20,000 Nortel Pensioners for whom justice will die on September 30. In their crisis, they stand to lose as much at 36% or more of their pensions, followed by all health and life insurance benefits at year end.We have a voice and a choice.
To: The Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper, The Hon. Jim Flaherty, The Hon. Tony Clement.
We the undersigned implore you to pass Bill C-501 third reading before Sept. 30. It is time to stop the unconscionable harm inflicted by current bankruptcy laws on Canadian pensioners. We have a voice.
Let it not be said, " Sirs, you had a choice"
