Dear community members,
The County Food Hub subcommittee has been working hard to keep Sophiasburgh School open and now WE NEED YOUR HELP again. The deadline to have a contractual agreement signed by both the Board and subcommittee is April 30th and we still don't have the full support of the School Board. If you want to keep our school open, please sign this petition, circulate it, and write to our trustees preferably by April 8th. Here are some key points to know:
- Community and Board support for the Food Hub means our school stays open.
- The subcommittee has met time sensitive Board requirements to date including: creating a detailed business plan, floor plans, and providing proof of legal entity (registered as a not-for-profit), and proof of financial viability.
- We are still working towards meeting our fundraising goal for April 30th.
- The County Food Hub meets the identified need for kitchen space in the community, embraces local food possibilities and works to provide a dynamic solution for underutilized space in an operating elementary school that helps to offset costs and keep students in schools close to their homes.
- We have the opportunity to turn our school into an even more vibrant community hub that has the capacity to get our kids in the kitchen learning about cooking, healthy eating, and local agriculture. There are endless possibilities for enhanced education!
