Fight for re-authorization of the Older Americans Act in order to secure funding for NCOA's fall prevention programs! Help us by emailing policymakers about this issue.

Falls are one of the highest leading causes of death annually and will only increase as older adults become the majority of the population. Falls lead to rapid health decline and are a financial burden. Senior falls are preventable and research-based programs such as the ones in the NCOA's Falls Free initiative have proven to be cost efficient and successful in preventing seniors from falls. The Older Americans Act provides funding for programs and services for Americans 65 years and older, including the NCOA's Falls Free. The OAA is up for reauthorization in fiscal year 2019 and we urge policymakers to fight for the reauthorization of this important act that serves America's older population.

The solution: bring awareness about fall prevention by funding the NCOA's Falls Free Program
How to do this: Email your policy makers to reauthorize the Older American Act

Instructions: Below is the email you can simply copy, paste, fill in and send to a policymaker. Below is the option of a few important policymakers to email. Thank You In Advance To All Who Help And Participate!

Greetings Policymaker ____________,

My name is _______________ and I am a _____________ that currently resides in________. I am writing you today to stress the importance of fall prevention programs and specifically, the National Council on Aging's Falls Free program, which encompasses multiple fall prevention programs that are available throughout the United States. According to the NCOA, $50 billion was spent on fall injuries alone in 2015 and is expected to increase roughly $18 billion more by the year 2020. Falls are inevitable, but also preventable through fall prevention awareness and programs. I urge you to reauthorize the Older Americans Act in fiscal year 2019, as this act provides funding to Falls Free and many other programs and resources that serve America's older population. The majority of the population will be older adults, it is time for them to be listed as a top priority rather than a side issue. Reauthorization of the OAA and continued funding for Falls Free will greatly benefit America's aging population. Fall prevention programs have proven to be cost efficient due to less deaths and less medical and financial burdens resulting from senior falls. I would highly appreciate your support in this important matter.

Sincerely,
