Drop all charges against the White Clay protesters

Time is of the essence! Their court appearance is set for the morning of September 26th.
Esteemed Sheridan County Attorney's Office,
I am a concerned member of the public and feel strongly that people protesting to express their beliefs in a peaceful manner, have a right to do so.
On Aug. 27th 5 members of the public were arrested and then loaded in to a manure covered horse trailer. At what is widely known as a peaceful protest in Whiteclay, NE.
They used a passive resistance tactic of creating a human chain across Hwy 87 to protest the rampant abuse of alcohol retailing and unethical business practices in Pine Ridge, SD at the alcohol mall in Whiteclay, NE which supplies an unlimited supply of alcohol to Reservation Residents.
Additionally, there was also a ten year old boy (along with other innocent bystanders) who was maced in the face by a Sheridan County Sheriff Deputy, and a 14 year old was arrested after defending himself when attacked by 4 Police Officers. This is not the standard of law enforcement that we expect or will accept.
in 2005 the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) reported of 28,000 residents on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Whiteclay has four off-sale beer stores licensed by the State of Nebraska which sell the equivalent of 4.5 million 12-ounce cans of beer annually (12,500 cans per day), mostly to the Oglalas living on the Pine Ridge.
Surgeon General Regina M. Benjamin, MD, MBA reports; Native Americans die at signifigantly higher rates than other groups. 6 times more often in alcohol related deaths. Experience twice the rate of violent victimization and are 150% more likely to have domestic violence in the home when alcohol is involved.
The 5 protesters were each cited with Resisting Arrest (Class I misdemeanor), Pedestrian on a Highway (traffic violation), and Failure to Obey a Lawful Order (Class III misdemeanor). All in all, each of the parties arrested face $1600 in fines and up to one year in jail. We ask that all of these charges be dropped and the fines waived. And that the issue of unlimited alcohol sales at Whiteclay be addressed.
