Professor Kathy Dettwyler said in a Facebook post that Otto Warmbier, an American UVA student who traveled to China and subsequently to North Korea, where he was unjustly deprived of his freedom, sentenced to fifteen years of hard labor for removing a banner from a hotel, and returned to the US seventeen months later in coma to die back home, had gotten "exactly what he deserved", and his parents were to blame for his upbringing.
Her soulless comments are appalling and she should never more stand in front of a class. Otto made a mistake, a mistake any of our children could have made, and instead of criticizing the regime that gave him such inhuman punishment, and advocating for human rights, she criticizes the victim and his parents. That woman can not hold a teaching position anywhere, but North Korea. It is my opinion, that until she is separated from the University, her classes should be boycotted.
If you agree with me, sign this petition. I also humbly request a prayer for Otto, and his family. Otto could have been everyone's son, and when he was deprived of his rights by an inhuman regime, he became everyone's son.
