Mexico has been massacring peaceful protestors, mostly teachers, in Oaxaca. Heavily armed police met unarmed protestors who were trying to protect educational programs against reforms that would destroy the current standard of education in that province.
In this conflict alone, nine people were killed and many more wounded as police, as directed by the government, opened fire on the peaceful protestors.
Mexico blatantly violated the human rights of its citizens to gather peacefully and protest against the government. This is not a new trend but something that President Enrique Peña Nieto has endorsed throughout his term.
In the aftermath of the Three Amigos conference, Canada is stating that it will have stronger relations with Mexico. In light of this, Canada must use its influence and relationship with Mexico to pressure the Mexican government to uphold human rights in that country.
Sign now to pressure Trudeau to make sure Canada's close trade partners are not human rights abusers. By signing today you are sending a strong message that human rights abuses must be taken seriously and not ignored.

As a person who cares deeply about the human rights of all people, I urge you to use your bettering relationship with Mexico to confront that government about the human rights abuses happening currently against peaceful protestors.
Canada must ensure that their close trade partners are upholding the standards of human rights that Canada has in their country. By allowing these violations to be ignored Canada disregards the basic human rights of the Mexican people and is implicated in the violence against them.
