Demand the Media Stop Displaying Drug Images in News Reporting

Addiction is a disease that over 23 million people aged 12 and older struggle with every day. In the United States we hold 5% of the world's population and consume over 60% of the world's illicit drugs. A staggering 95% of individuals in addiction will die from their addiction! A person is never cured of addiction; simple in remission or recovery. However, recovery is tested every minute of every day. Out of 23 million people who need treatment and resources, only 11% receive them. It may take multiple attempts at recovery until recovery is successful; however 90% of individuals working a recovery program maintain sobriety.

If these facts were about cancer, diabetes, or car accidents, there would be a large public outcry, media would take action, the country would demand action from everyone. Yet, addiction does not get that attention. The stigma that it is the "addict's fault" and "not my problem but their's" is strongly believed in our society. We at Stop Heroin Now, a 501c3 dedicated to education, awareness, and support for everyone affected by addiction, are asking for YOU to take a stand. DEMAND that the media STOP displaying visuals of drug triggers (drug use and drug paraphernalia) on the news, in newspapers, magazines, commercials, and other public displays. These visuals are triggers that can directly contribute to a lose in strength. The message and information the media is delivering can still be effective without these specific visuals!
