Save the Old St James Church building from demolition

There has been talk of demolishing the old St James Church building in Minto, New South Wales, Australia. The Church Wardens and Parish Council deliberately allowed the building to become run-down and now they want to demolish it.

The Old Church was built in 1897 and was Minto's first church and remained Minto's only church for many yhears. It was originally located on the boundary between Ingleburn and Minto, but in 1918 was relocated to its present position in Redfern Road, Minto. The building is considered to be unique because it has two foundation stones as a result of this move. The building is a link with early Minto and early congregations, and it is now the oldest substantially-unaltered historic building, and arguably the best example of an historic building, in Minto Village.

If the Old Church is demolished, it can never be brought back. It should be heritage listed and restored to its original condition. If the Church Wardens and Parish Council get their way, they will be destroying a huge chunk of local history. This should never be allowed to happen.

An inspection was done and the building is repairable. As you can see from the picture, the structure is quite sound.

Please sign my petition and save this magnificent old building.

Hello. I need to let you all know what has been happening with this petition. Everything was very quiet for quite a long time, and then when I walked past the Old Church last Thursday (6th October, 2016) I noticed a "Post-Demolition Development Plan" strung between palm trees outside the Old Church, up where people couldn't see it clearly. As soon as I got home I contacted Campbelltown Council about this, but they never got back to me. And today (Monday 10th October) I found out why: My friend Laurie Porter viewed the Development Application at Campbelltown Council's offices and saw that Council had told the church wardens/parish council to display this sign on 7TH SEPTEMBER, and closing date for objections from the public was 21ST SEPTEMBER!!! The church wardens/parish council deliberately held off displaying this sign, so there could not be any objections in the time allotted!!! Very very very un-christian attitude on their part!!!!

I saw one of the congregation today and she said the old St James Church has been "condemned" (her word). Well then, why isn't there a fence around it and signs saying it's condemned? (It appears exactly as seen in the above picture.) And why do a quote for repairs? There are schoolchildren and their parents taking a short cut through the Church grounds on their way to and from school, and they can walk right past the Old Church, even touch it! Somebody is spinning a lot of lies, I think...

Yesterday i spoke to the manager of the church's op shop (who, by the way, gets paid out of op shop takings). I asked her why the Old Church was being demolished and among other things, she said "It's only a building" and smiled. It's a WHOLE LOT more than that to so many people!!

For the last couple of weeks I've been writing and delivering letters to the congregation. They were not consulted about the possible demolition of the Old Church, just told it was going to happen and that's that. Please share this petition among your friends. The more signatures I have, the better chance I have of convincing the church wardens and parish council that what they want to do is a bad thing and will be destroying a big part of local history.
