Make it compulsory for vets to declare their interest in foxhunting through the RCVS

A recent case of a vet riding with a hunt highlighted the fact that vets can also be hunters. Many people are not aware that they are allowing someone who thinks it's acceptable to hunt to treat their animals. Animal lovers are appalled by this and tried to find out if their vet was involved in hunting but were met with a refusal to talk or answer the question. A call to the vets' regulator the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) to ask if vets needed to declare their interest and association to hunts was met with a definite 'No'. We know that since the Hunting Act 2004 was passed, making it illegal to hunt wild mammals with dogs, many foxes have been 'accidentally'' killed and 14 years on it remains an emotive and contentious issue. Pet owners have a right to know if their vet hunts so that they can make an informed choice about who treats their pets. We are, therefore, asking for the RCVS to make it compulsory for a vet to disclose their connection to a hunt to their current or prospective employer and customers.
