Robert R. Jennings, president of Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, recently made abhorrent comments about women and rape during a speech made to female students on campus. Jennings said women make false rape accusations when "it didn't turn out the way they wanted."
Tell the Board of Trustees to fire President Jennings for saying women lie about rape!
A YouTube video revealed his remarks Nov. 1. The video begins with Jennings declaring that if women don't "respect" themselves, men won't either.
"Now let me let you in on a little secret. Men treat you, treat women, the way women allow us to treat them. And let me let you in on another little secret. We will use you up, if you allow us to use you up," Jennings said during the university's annual women-only convocation on Sept. 16 at the main campus. "Well, guess what? When it comes time for us to make that final decision, we're going to go down the hall and marry that girl with the long dress on. That's one we're going to take home to mama. Because there's something about the way you carry yourself and respect yourself that commands and demands respect from us."
He then launches into stories of false rape accusation allegedly made on campus.
False rape accusations are not okay, but neither is insinuating that women will be "used up" by men and proceed to lie about rape if they don't "respect" themselves. His comments carry a whif of victim-blaming and slut-shaming, to boot.
Jennings' comments were inappropriate, especially considering his position at an institution of higher learning, where rape very well does take place and deserves to be taken seriously.
