Stop Dog Hunting in Chile!

A new amendment to a hunting law in Chile lets license carriers hunt wild dogs in rural areas. The change exists in an effort to control the population of an estimated 3 million feral dogs throughout the country.

According to a National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) study, many dogs that attack animals in rural areas belong to farmers who fail to feed them adequately. They do not fall under the new hunting law because they aren't technically wild. According to Senator Fulvio Rossi, "Extermination and killing is not a solution to controlling the dog population. It is precisely the antithesis of promoting responsible pet ownership."

Killing feral dogs in the countryside will not prevent the problems caused by irresponsible pet ownership, nor the overpopulation of dogs throughout Chile, many of which live in urban areas. Better, more humane solutions include educating Chilean citizens on responsible pet ownership and sterilizing wild dogs to prevent overbreeding. Please sign the petition to convince Chilean legislators that killing wild dogs is not the answer!
