Demand St. Clair County Take Action: Remove Animal Care From Sheriff's Dept.

The Problem: St. Clair County is one of the worst-performing county shelters in the state of Michigan, ranking number 84 out of 90. In 2015, the county’s live release rate was only 50.31%. The goal is 90% or higher.

The Solution: St. Clair County can reach the goal of 90% or higher live release rate by incorporating 10 proven, best-practices programs into the shelter’s operations. This formula has proven successful with every shelter that has done it throughout Michigan and across the country.

The residents, voters and taxpayers of St. Clair County demand transparency and accountability in the care of our community's companion animals. To accomplish this, we ask the St. Clair County Board of Commissioners to do two things that will change everything:

1. Move St. Clair County Animal Care and Control and all sheltering responsibilities out of the Sheriff's Department and to the Administration.

2. Allocate budget to hire a proactive, creative, transformational and compassionate shelter director.

Accomplishing those two priorities will raise the live release rate at the county shelter, resulting in more lives saved and fewer lives unnecessarily killed.
