END LIFE SENTENCES IN TENNESSEE

InTennessee a person had to serve 51 years before they are even considered for parole if they are serving a life sentence with parole. This is the harshest sentencing law in the U.S. President Biden and the Clintons made the change to the laws with their Truth in Sentencing campaign in 1995. Before then a person would be eligible for parole in Tennessee after service of 25 years. If a person 15-18 years of age is convicted of murder just think about it they'll be almost 70 years old before they even are considered for parole. Meaning their life is essentially over without having the chance to be rehabilitated and re-enter society. At that age a child isn't fully mature and aren't really responsible for their actions cause they haven't fully developed yet. We need to have sensible legislation that reverses the life sentence in Tennessee so our children can have a meaningful chance to gain their freedom. The supreme court has already deemed these types of sentences unconstitutional so Tennessee need to follow the lead of the high courts and it should be focusing on giving teens meaning individuals up to the age of 19 and young adults meaning up to the age of 21 the chance to be able to live life instead of being condemned for life for a mistake they made when they were young.
