Snakes often cause fear in humans, and many of us want nothing to do with them. As the human population has increased the habitat for snakes has diminished significantly to the point that hundreds of snake species are now considered threatened species.
However, as with all creatures they have a place in the food chain and can be a valuable resource to humans. Farmers find many snakes invaluable in keeping rodent and certain insect populations in control. Scientists are now discovering that certain snake venoms can be valuable as pain medications and anti-cancer agents.
Not everyone needs to hold, pet, or love a snake. But, please pledge to avoid actively killing snakes, or purchasing products made from snakes!
