A 16-Year-Old Boy Died in a Sawmill Accident As Republicans Loosen Child Labor Laws

A 16-year-old boy is dead, and the legislators who have relaxed child labor laws have blood on their hands.

The Wisconsin child, who was legally working at a sawmill, died this summer after suffering an "industrial accident." He became pinned inside a wood-stacking machine and passed away from his injuries. This tragedy could have been prevented, and this boy should still be alive. But rather than protect children from deadly jobs, legislators across the country want to make it even easier to send minors to work.

We won't let that happen.

Sign now to tell Wisconsin legislators: protect kids! Strengthen state child labor laws!

Children deserve to be children. They should be allowed to grow up unburdened with the responsibilities and dangers of risky jobs like the one this poor child lost his life to.

In the early 1900s, thousands of labor organizers fought – and died – to keep children out of the workplace. In fact, many key victories that protected kids from dangerous workplaces were won well over a century ago.

But Republicans are rolling them back, and now children's lives are at risk. Some state lawmakers are even trying to allow 14-year-olds to serve alcohol in bars and restaurants.

It is time the state of Wisconsin committed to caring for the children that live within its borders. State legislators must strengthen child labor laws now! Sign the petition if you agree!
