These factories are notorious for subcontracting work to make labor even cheaper. Unfortunately, subcontracting makes it hard to track how garment workers are treated, and how much they are paid.
The current minimum wage for Cambodian garment workers is $140 a month. Factories plan to keep wages this way in order to please big brands like H&M. These wages fall short of unions' proposed minimum of $160 a month.
Considering garment workers work for an average of 48 hours a week, a $160 per month salary is not too much to ask for. Please sign the petition to urge H&M to support a wage increase for their workers!
