Equal Treatment Towing - Alachua County Florida

I'm new to Gainesville, and I have just been absolutely shocked by how there's so little regulation in Alachua County to protect its citizens from unfair towing treatment.

The people of Gaineville get so many more protections under the law, and I want the same to happen for Alachua County, where so many of its citizens are being exploited by towing companies and big businesses who are both profiting off the towing rules its citizens cannot refute...until now.

Sign the petition and you will be able to make a mark in history and give the people of Alachua County the same rights as their fair city.

Once we have enough signatures we will submit it to the Florida government and they will have to address it.

Gainesville has a towing policy which is fair and protects its citizens from money-grubbing businesses looking to exploit its citizens through the law.

Alachua County, however, does not, and many have fallen victim to the racketeering towing companies have with private businesses, especially apartment complexes.

Gainesville residents are protected by the Gainesville Police Department, in that private businesses are not allowed to tow cars for any reason the business names. They in Gainesville only if they do not have a parking tag or if they are not registered with the business that owns the parking lot.

Alachua County residents are not protected by this. Apartment complexes can make any rules they want to make a car towable, and the citizens in Alachua county can't do anything about it.
Example: a tag which is expired for your car - a state offense which already has a penalty when an officer notices and gives a ticket for expired license plate tags - is a towable offense in some places. So in addition to getting punished for the car's tags being expired (though yes, it is perfectly fine for police to deliver appropriate punishment in this case), there is *additional* punishment from towing companies which lines their pockets and the pockets of the businesses which call it in.

The people who lose out are the innocent citizens of Alachua County, who oftentimes are struggling to get by as it is, without being hit with additional fees they can't afford.

And the point here is that those who live in the umbrella of Gainesville policy get protected, while their neighbors are suffering additional penalties and fees...not because it's justified, but because businesses want to use them to get richer.

In addition, under Gainesville law citizens of Gainesville are permitted to pay with cash, credit, or debit card. However, Alachua County residents have been required, at least by Ultimate Towing Companies to pay 100% in cash, and they don't even provide change, which is an extra inconvenience for these people, and sometimes adds extra time to their car's impoundment, racking up the fees.
