Severe drought: Include high income leisure activities in California water restriction legislation

Governor Brown's recent water restrictions take an important step toward water conservation for the state. Use of water to support the leisure activities of high income individuals should be among the PRIMARY considerations for restrictions. We need to support families and agriculture. Why allow the MULTIPLE Golf courses in cities and deserts to continue with business as usual? In Los Angeles alone, there are multiple public and private golf courses on the Westside all within 10 miles of each other.

With respect to ski resort communities, while it is true that they rely on skiers to support their work force, skiers will continue to be able to ski during the regular season without the benefit of artificial snow to allow the season to open early and stay open late.

The executive order issues restrictions for residential use, but the more salient issue is who benefits from watered golf courses and ski slopes with artificial snow? Certainly not children and families from the working class.

Please, legislators, acknowledge that this is just one more area where "the rich get richer".
