Legalization of marijuana

For years marijuana has believed to be a dangerous drug. Scientists has proven that marijuana does less damage to your body then Alcohol and cigarettes. If us as Americans are allowed to harmful substances such as Alcohol and cigarettes then why shouldn't we be allowed to use a substance that we use to for medical purposes
