Robert Johnson Was Just Sitting on His Phone When the Police Came and Beat Him to the Ground

Robert Johnson was on his phone minding his own business when the unthinkable happened. Four police officers walked up to him and began punching him in the face.

The four cops say that Johnson was "not cooperating and exhibiting aggressive body language." But video says otherwise.

In the video, Johnson can be seen leaning against the railing of an apartment building talking on his phone. Another man, also in the video, is seen sitting on the ground interacting with a police officer. Suddenly, several more officers appear, confront Robert and within seconds begin beating him.

It's a disgusting display of police brutality and they would have gotten away with this abuse had it not been for a local pastor. The religious leader got hold of video surveillance and turned it into Mesa Police for investigation.

These officers treated Robert Johnson — a 33-year-old African-American — as if he were their personal punching bag. It is inexcusable and must be punished. In the last several weeks, police officers all over the country have been filmed abusing citizens, and even with clear evidence of police brutality they rarely face little more than suspension or a few days of desk duty. This must end.

The four officers have currently been put on leave, but they need to be fired. There is no other way to root out the dangerous trend of police brutality that's emerging in our country. Americans deserve better.

Please sign the petition and demand that Mesa, Arizona Police Chief Ramon Batista fire the four officers involved at once.
