Congress: Stop Stalling and Pass a Budget Already
Congress likes to fret and fear-monger about the need to get the country's fiscal house in order. But when it comes down to doing its most basic duty -- passing a budget to fund the government -- politicians on both sides are refusing to get their act together.
Right now, the House and the Senate have both passed substantially different budgets with a $91 billion spending difference between the two plans. But instead of actually trying to hammer out a compromise, Congress is stalling.
The federal budget is a massively important document. It not only allows agencies to actually do their work and pay their employees, it sets the government's goals and priorities.
Politicians have dragged the budget through political fights for years, but now that they're actually steps away from passing one, they've got cold feet. Demand Congress do its job and take the next steps to actually pass a federal budget.
Dear [Decision Maker],
As your constituent, I am deeply disappointed in your chamber's inability to pass a budget. Both Democrats and Republicans have harped on the importance of fiscal issues, but when it comes to doing the most basic thing to solve them -- passing a real federal budget, not a continuing resolution -- you guys can't get your act together.
There is still a $91 billion difference between the House and Senate budgets, yet neither chamber has taken the necessary steps to iron out these differences.
