Petland's Bobo Belongs in a Sanctuary

Bobo, a baby baboon who was yanked away from his mother, sold at auction, and put on display in a plexiglass case at the Petland store in North Augusta, South Carolina, where his "owner," George Bonner, dressed him up in human clothes and charged customers $2 for a photograph. We're petitioning that the USDA deny Booner a license. Baboons don't belong in plexiglass boxes in pet stores anywhere.
THIS IS BOBO

This is a photo of Bobo,
a baby baboon who was yanked away from his mother, sold at auction, and
put on display in a plexiglass case at the Petland store in North
Augusta, South Carolina, where his "owner," George Bonner, dressed him
up in human clothes and charged customers $2 for a photograph.
Thankfully, many good people in North Augusta didn't think it was
right; they knew Bobo was lonely for his mother and frightened by his
circumstances. But Bonner told PETA's caseworker that he had no
interest in hearing from us about Bobo’s prospects for being sent to a
sanctuary.

Not only was holding Bobo for display cruel, it is against the law in North Augusta and Aiken county.
When a North Augusta animal control officer warned Bonner that he was
in violation of a city ordinance forbidding the display of exotic
animals, the young baboon was quickly moved to Eudora Farms
in Salley, South Carolina. Bonner is currently collecting signatures on
a petition in an effort to get Bobo back and put him on exhibition
again. Bonner has applied to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)
for a license to exhibit Bobo. If he succeeds, he will be able to
display him in a location that has no ordinance protecting exotic
animals.

Baboons in the wild live in large, close-knit communities and travel
together for miles each day through forests, savannahs, deserts, and
hills. Baboons are highly social and caring animals who suffer when
deprived of companionship. In the wild, baboons will even stage
sit-down protests or hurl rocks at cars when a loved one is killed on
the road, according to Robert Sapolsky, professor of biology and
natural sciences at Stanford University. (Read A Primate's Memoir by Sapolsky for a wonderful look at the lives of these amazing animals.)
