A series of horrific videos circulating social media show a wounded 13-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh, India pleading for help in front of a group of men filming her. The fact that bystanders chose to film a young girl who needed help is extremely disturbing, but the details are even worse. She was raped and was found lying unconscious and bleeding, only to awaken to the onlookers. Her attacker has been identified and, apparently, he has a violent history of assault against minors. It is imperative he is found and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

The girl's family says she had left the house to buy a piggy bank when she was attacked and raped. Thankfully, she was eventually taken to the hospital by police and is now being treated.
In 2020, more than 28,000 cases of rape were reported in India – that's an average of 77 cases a day. Rape is a serious problem in the country and much needs to be done to change these societal issues. While prosecuting one rapist won't change widespread rape culture, finding and prosecuting a repeat offender will at least bring the people in Uttar Pradesh some peace.
