Codes of Cruelty.....intensive,inhumane pig farming practices

Currently the Codes of Practice are under review. The public consultation period ends on July27th 2006.Legislation will be drafted about what practices are considered humane.Currently over 500 million animals are excluded under this legislation.6 million animals a year are affected by these conditions but not protected by current legislation. These animals at the very least deserve the humane conditions and vet treatment for their medical needs. This is currently not the case. They are suffering in herrific conditions. If theses animals were classed as domestic their conditions would be considered animal abuse and punishable by law. Please help these helpless animals.
Pigs are confined for endless periods on hard floors with no room to get up,stretch their legs or even turn around. This leads to painful conditions including dislocations, hip fractures, lameness and bone deformities.Farmers argue that pigs are aggressive so need to be held in these crates and farrowing stalls under such inhumane conditions, for their own safety.Pigs are intelligent animals that need space to forage and exhibit their natural behaviours.Piglets have their tails docked, teeth clipped and castration performed without any anesthetic.Pigs in these intensive farming situations are suffering.PLEASE HELP BY INSISTING ON HUMANE CONDITIONS.
