Support Dignity in Dying

Heather Pratten's son Nigel had Huntington's disease. On his 42nd birthday, he asked his mother to help him die.

Nigel knew he would suffer terribly, and he reached out to medical professionals, friends and family to help him die with dignity. Unfortunately, there were no legal opportunities for him to do so. His mother, Heather, chose to help her son fulfill his wishes, even though she faced 14 years in prison for doing so. In her son's greatest hour of need, Heather chose his needs over her own future.

No one else should be forced to make this choice. Dignity in Dying is a campaign to to legalise assisted dying, within upfront safeguards, for terminally ill, mentally competent adults.

If you believe the law should change, please sign your name in support of the Assisted Dying Bill.

Without a change in the law, dying people will suffer against their wishes at the end of life and will continue to make decisions without the advice of medical or social care professionals. The legalisation of assisted dying - which 76% of adults in England and Wales support - will give dying people greater choice and greater protection by introducing up-front safeguards that check for abuse and coercion before somebody dies.

The case for change is clear -- unbearable suffering, inflicted on a dying person who wishes to die, is unjust and unacceptable. We cannot achieve change without your help. Show your support for dignity in dying.
