Protect Tasmania's World Heritage forests

World Heritage is supposed to be a great thing, right?

Countries campaign for years, decades even, just to get nominated. A new World Heritage listing is a cause for celebration — it means international recognition of a universally important place and is a blessing for tourism. It provides people with an enormous sense of pride in their natural and cultural heritage.

Unfortunately, our Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, doesn't see it that way at all.

Mr Abbott is prepared to embarrass us on a global stage by making Australia the first ever country to request that their own intact World Heritage area be removed from the list.

Less than a year after they were added to the existing Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, the Abbott Government is prepared to do the unthinkable by stripping 74,000ha of globally significant forests from the list. That's around the size of 50,000 Melbourne Cricket Grounds.

We're furious about this and will be doing everything we can to put a stop to this insanity. Will you help us?

Please sign the petition and request Tony Abbott to remove his request to the World Heritage Committee to de-list 74,000ha of Tasmania's World Heritage Forests.
