Animal testing for cosmetics is unethical, unsafe, and cruel.

Tell Johnson & Johnson, Proctor & GambleL'OrealUnilever, Avon, NARS Cosmetics, Revlon, M.A.C., and Mary Kay Cosmetics they can ensure the safety of cosmetics and their ingredients without torturing animals. Tell them to support SB 1249 (Galgiani), the California Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act

The California Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act, SB 1249, was introduced in the California State Legislature by Senator Cathleen Galgiani (D-Stockton). The bill, which would prohibit the sale of animal-tested cosmetics in the state, is sponsored by Social Compassion in Legislation (SCIL) and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), and supported by Lush Cosmetics, many other companies and groups, and tens of thousands of individuals.

Today, modern approaches to testing products are considered safer and more applicable to humans, yielding more reliable and valid results. Non-animal approaches use engineered three-dimensional human skin tissues or other types of cells and sophisticated computer models, all of which ensure safety of cosmetics without harming animals. Painful methods like the Draize eye test and the LD-50 are not only cruel — but are also considered outdated.

These multi-national corporations need to stop blocking progress that the whole world demands, and start supporting SB 1249, the California Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act. This law will be historic — making California the first state to ban animal-tested cosmetics.With the European UnionIsrael, India, and other countries already going cruelty-free, California, the 5thlargest economy in the world, will be the tipping point which makes animal testing for cosmetics a thing of the past.

Tell Johnson & Johnson, Proctor & Gamble, L'Oreal, Unilever, Avon, NARS Cosmetics, Revlon, M.A.C., and Mary Kay Cosmetics: I will not buy another one of your products until you end animal testing and support SB 1249 (GalgianiCalifornia Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act.
