Stand With South African Women: Stop the Boikarabelo Coal Mine

Women are campaigning in South Africa to stop Australia's export credit agency from funding a coal mine that will rob them of their human rights. Will you join them?

Right now, Australia's export credit agency, Efic, is considering funding the proposed Boikarabelo coal mine in Limpopo, South Africa. If this mine goes ahead, it will put the rights of local women and their communities at risk, and open up a huge new reserve of coal.

Across South Africa, women are uniting to stop coal mining and demand their human rights. They're now calling on Australia to rule out funding the Boikarabelo coal mine, and they're asking you to help take their message straight to Efic’s board room.

Stand with these women today. Don’t let them fight this battle alone.
To the Efic Board and Executive,

The proposed Boikarabelo coal mine is strongly opposed by local communities in South Africa, and particularly the women who are most affected by mining. Human rights abuses in the South African coal industry are rampant, including in Limpopo province where this mine is proposed.

This project would also be disastrous for the world’s commitment to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees. Funding the Boikarabelo coal mine would be inconsistent with the Australian Government’s obligations on human rights and climate change, and we strongly urge you to rule out any investment in this project.

Sincerely,
