Pledge your support to end TB!

Tuberculosis (TB) is preventable, treatable and curable. Yet it remains one of the world's deadliest infectious diseases, with at least 1.3 million deaths in 2022 (WHO).

While advances have been made, MSF continues to advocate for more accessible diagnostic and treatment tools for people affected by the disease.

The Time for $5 campaign is calling on TB diagnostics manufacturers Cepheid and parent company Danaher to reduce the price of all its lifesaving GeneXpert tests to $5, so more people can access them.

"This is a very important test for TB care providers because it is highly sensitive [generating few false negative results] and tells you whether someone has TB and also whether they are resistant to first-line drugs," said Dr Stijn Deborggraeve, diagnostics advisor for MSF's Access Campaign. For more than 10 years MSF and governments have paid almost $10 for one test; that's the weekly income of for some people in many affected countries, says Stijn. MSF is the largest non-governmental provider of TB treatment worldwide and has been involved in TB care for 30 years.

"Making a [device or] drug but then making it out of reach for the people who need it doesn't make sense," says former extensively drug-resistant TB patient and access advocate, Phumeza Tisile. "We will not tire from this conversation until people can get the right treatment for the right diagnosis at the right time."

Sign now and help urge TB test manufacturers to put people over profits and drop the price of ALL tests.
